You've probably seen the public service ads urging you to test and replace your smoke alarm batteries. We all know these warnings are there to help protect us, but what if someone designed a fire alarm that could bypass the nagging and save lives without the need for routine maintenance? Well that's precisely what Industrial Designer Arthur Brault is striding to achieve with the Lum Smoke Detector.
This clever device sits between the bulb and the socket of the lighting attachment on your ceiling and charges itself every time you switch on the light. When the Lum does detect smoke, it sounds the standard sonar alert as well as providing emergency power to the bulb, shedding light on a potentially dangerous situation.
